Scholarship
I have published very widely in the fields of Latin poetry and its reception, early modern English poetry and (especially) the Latin and English bilingualism of early modern English literary culture. My most recent books are A Literary History of Latin and English Poetry: Bilingual Verse Culture in Early Modern England (CUP, 2022) and, with John Talbot, C. H. Sisson Reconsidered (Palgrave, 2022). Earlier in my career I edited the Cambridge Guide to Neo-Latin Literature (Cambridge, 2017). My first academic monograph was Jonson, Horace and the Classical Tradition (Cambridge, 2010). With John Drury, I have also edited the Penguin Complete Poems of George Herbert, which includes all of Herbert’s Latin and Greek poetry with notes and a parallel English translation.
I have made copies of as many of my academic publications as possible available on my academia.edu page. If you are looking for something which is not available there, do please contact me as I may be able to supply a copy privately.
I continue to publish academic chapters, articles and editions from time to time, but I am no longer taking on any unpaid academic commissions.
I am no longer actively supervising research students, though I am happy to offer advice to students considering working on topics in my field, especially on early modern Latin literature.
