Poetry and verse translation
I occasionally publish poetry of my own, both ‘original’ poems and verse translations (from Latin, Greek, Sanskrit or French). A set of six poems recently appeared together in PN Review (preview only for non-subscribers). Other recent examples include ‘Pindar in the Nursery’ (in the first issue of New Verse Review, 2024), ‘After Watching the News’ and ‘Rue de la Clef’ (both in the first issue of Black Iris, 2024), ‘Elegy’ (published in Bad lilies, 2022) and two poems responding to Horace and Ovid (published in Ancient Exchanges, 2022). In summer 2024 I also had poems and translations published in Interpret and The Brazen Head. Many of my poems and translations have appeared in books, journals or magazines which are not available online (such as The Dark Horse, Modern Poetry in Translation and the recent CUP anthology Outer Space), I also sometimes use my own translations in essays on my substack, Horace & friends.
